By expressing gratitude to the presence of Allah SWT, for the abundance of His grace and guidance, the writing of the book entitled Taxation for Development: Policy, Innovation, and Its Impact. This book discusses the introduction, theoretical basis and basic concepts of taxation, tax policy in Indonesia, taxation and economic development, and the challenges and future of taxation in Indonesia.
Taxation plays a fundamental role in the economic development of modern states. Governments rely on taxes not only to generate revenue but also to influence economic behavior, promote social equity, and support sustainable development. In many countries, tax systems are designed as central components of fiscal policy aimed at achieving macroeconomic stability, equitable income distribution, and long-term economic growth. As a result, taxation has evolved from being a purely revenue-generating mechanism into a strategic policy instrument for national development. Economic development requires substantial financial resources to support investments in infrastructure, educa- tion, healthcare, technology, and public services. These sectors are essential for enhancing productivity and improving the quality of life of citizens. Taxation provides governments with the fiscal capacity needed to finance such expenditures. A well-structured tax system enables governments to mobilize domestic resources effectively and reduces reliance on external borrowing or foreign aid (Pecho et al., 2024).
